A Hindu school's decision to prevent a Muslim trainee teacher from wearing her hijab is headed to the courts.

The education ministry is now awaiting a report from the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha regarding the issue and once that is received, the attorney general will take the matter to high court for interpretation.

The government says this issue is not a straightforward one and therefore it will wait for the court's determination.
