North cut off from Central, South Trinidad

Central and South Trinidad were cut off from the rest of the country today as the Caroni River burst its banks making the major access road the Uriah Butler Highway impassable, with both lanes under water.

The incident created a traffic nightmare for motorists, who had no choice but to abandon their cars and others to break the law and drive along the north-bound lane in an attempt to escape the chaos.
