Akeel Ramadeen,18, of Maraldo Trace, Santa Cruz, is expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate today charged with common assault and possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Ramadeen was arrested during an anti-crime exercise in the Santa Cruz district, on July 27th, 2018.
According to police reports while on mobile patrol along Moraldo Trace, officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF), observed a group of men liming.
Upon seeing the officers, the men ran off and a chase ensued.
During the chase, one of the men pointed an object resembling a firearm at one of the officers.
The officer became fearful for his life, and fired one shot at the suspect, resulting in him being injured.
The suspect was later found hiding in a bedroom of a nearby house, nursing a wound to his thigh.
One silver Smith and Wesson pistol, loaded with a magazine containing eight rounds of ammunition, was found hidden in some bushes outside of the said house.
The suspect was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for medical attention and subsequently charged
