27-year-old man shot dead in Carenage

A 27-year-old man has been shot dead in Carenage, taking the murder toll to 223  for the year.

The deceased has been identified as David "Mango" Roberts.

According to a police report, Roberts was standing along Haig Street shortly after 5 am Friday when he was shot several times by gunmen.

He died on the scene.

Speaking with the Guardian Media Friday, concerned residents said the gang warfare in the area continues and have again called for increased police patrols in the area.

A resident, who wished not to be identified, said gunmen continue to randomly shoot at their homes and cars.

"They should bring out the army like what they did a while back. We have to be locked up in our homes like if we are prisoners. That not right. Something needs to be done," the resident said.

On May 18, police patrols in both marked and unmarked vehicles increased in the Carenage area following a spate of gunfire in the hills just off Scorpion Lane.

The piercing gunshots were caught on a three-minute video that went viral on social media.

That incident followed a shooting incident the day before, on May 17.

A heavily armed contingent of police officers and members of the T&T Defence Force, including coast guard officers and soldiers, responded shortly after 2 pm that day.

Also present were members of the Special Operations Response Team, Canine Unit and Air Support.

Police officers from the Carenage Police Station are again pleading with members of the public who may have information as to who the gunmen are and where the guns are stashed away to contact them at 555, 999, 800 TIPS or 482 GARY.
