$.5 million bail for police officer on corruption charges

A Special Reserve Police Constable with nine years’ service, was granted $500,000 bail with surety, after appearing before a Port of Spain Magistrate, charged with one count of corruptly soliciting money, one count of agreeing to accept money and one count of corruptly accepting money, between the period Friday 9th March, 2018 and Monday 12th March, 2018.

PC Glen Sanoir, 38, of Oasis Green, Chaguanas, appeared before Magistrate Kerri Honore-Narine, in the Port of Spain 1st Magistrates’ Court, on Monday 19th March, 2018, to answer to the charges.

The matter was adjourned to Monday 16th April, 2018 and bail was granted on the condition that the accused surrenders his passport and reports to the Fraud Squad, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, between the hours of 6:00am and 6:00pm.

The accused was arrested by officers of the Professional Standards Bureau, on Monday 12th March, 2018, following investigations into allegations that he corruptly solicited a total of $6,000 in cash from a 24- year-old woman, for the swift recovery of a vehicle which was stolen from her in February, 2018. PC Sanoir was charged by PC Paul Mohammed, on Friday 16th March, 2018, following advice received from the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Joan Honore-Paul, that same day.
