50 year old woman appears in court charged with larceny

Marie Ragoonath, 50, of New Grant Princes Town appeared before a Princes Town Magistrates' Court, charged with larceny in the sum of TT$30,000.

According to reports Ragoonath a checker at the Princes Town Regional Corporation allegedly received TT$30,000 between Wednesday 26th October 2016, and Thursday 17th November 2016, as payment for port and customs fees and subsequent delivery of a Nissan Tiida motor vehicle.

 It was later learned by the victim that the money was not used for its intended purposes and all attempts to be refunded proved futile.

 A report was subsequently made to the Fraud Squad on 24th January 2018, which led to investigations being supervised by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Totaram Dookhie, of the Fraud Squad.

Ragoonath was arrested during an anti-crime exercise in the San Fernando district on Thursday 26th July 2018, by officers of the Fraud Squad South. Cpl. Ricardo Toney, of the Fraud Squad, laid the charge.
