Autopsy rules out 'buried alive' fear; victim shot dead first

An autopsy has ruled out fears that a 20-year-old man found buried and wrapped in plastic in the Matura forest, was buried alive.

Police had feared that Donald Pierre, whose body was found yesterday evening, had been buried alive.

However an autopsy conducted this morning found a single bullet wound to his head, which killed Pierre before he was buried.

Police say a man from East Trinidad led a team of officers attached to the Homicide and Inter-Agency Bureas to a quarry in the dense forested area in Matura Village, where he pointed out to an area where a man's body was buried.

Late Monday evening, officers used a backhoe to dig into the loose quarry dirt and discovered the decomposing body.

Investigations are ongoing.
