Chaguanas Mayor suggests closing bars, nightspots by 2 am to help curb crime

Chaguanas Mayor Gopaul Boodhan says a conversation must begin to discuss the possible closing of bars and other nightspots in Chaguanas, by 2 am for the latest.

The Mayor says he believes this will have a positive impact on crime in the borough.

He spoke to CNC3 on Sunday, saying it pains him to see the number of deaths of young people in Chaguanas and across the country.

"I think it's time that we should start the conversation and the discussion as it relates to those establishments like the bars and places of entertainment so that we could have like a cut off period, let's say one o'clock or two o'clock and it will have a positive effect too in the community," he said.

The mayor is calling on religious leaders and other stakeholders to come together to find a formula to curb the crime and violence, particularly with young people.
