Charged with wasting police time - wife reports him missing, police find him at a house, he claims he was kidnapped

A 35-year-old man, who had been reported missing by his common-law wife, was today fined $800 by a Couva Magistrate, after he pled guilty to a charge of wasteful employment of police time.

Kevin Samaroo, of Carlsen Field, Chaguanas, was reported missing to the Chaguanas Police Station, on Sunday 26th March, 2017, by Crystal Partapsingh.

Following investigations by members of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, on Monday 27th March, 2017, Samaroo was found at a house in California, Couva.

Under questioning, Samaroo gave a false report to officers, alleging he was a victim of kidnapping and robbery.

He was subsequently charged with the offence of wasteful employment of police time.

Samaroo appeared before Senior Magistrate, Cheryl Ann Antoine and was charged by PC Duncan of the Couva Police CID. 

The investigations into the whereabouts of Kevin Samaroo, was supervised by ASP (Ag.) Rishi Singh and led by Cpl Aaron Bhagwandeen, of the AntiKidnapping Unit.
