Coast Guard intercepts pirogue with over 51kgs of 'weed'

Over 51 kilogrammes of suspected marijuana have been seized in an operation conducted by the Cast Guard.

The Defence Force says that around 4.30 pm on Saturday, a Coast Guard Interceptor whilst on routine patrol, intercepted a pirogue in the Gulf of Paria with three occupants on board.

The vessel and occupants were escorted to the Coast Guard Base at Cedros Bay, where further searches were conducted.

Two crocus bags were discovered containing 49 packets of a plant-like substance which weighed approximately 51.8 kgs.

The occupants and contents were subsequently handed over to the Organized Crime and Intelligence Unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
