Common-law husband charged with strangling death of Freeport woman

A Freeport PH taxi driver has appeared before a Couva Magistrate, charged with the murder of his common-law wife, Latchmie Patsy Persad, which occurred on Saturday 3rd March, 2018.

Adrian Anan Bal, 35, of Ramsamooj Avenue, Freeport, appeared before Magistrate Siumongal Ramsaran, in the Couva 1st Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to answer to the charge.

The matter was adjourned to Thursday 5th April, 2018.

Persad, 53, a cashier, of the same address, was at home when she was strangled.

A relative reported the incident to the Couva Police Station.

The victim was subsequently found in a bedroom of the house, covered with a cream bedsheet.

Investigations were supervised by Insp. Learie Figaro and Sgt. Richardson Elvin, both of Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region 3, while Bal, was charged by Cpl. Subhash Harrypersad, on Wednesday 7th March, 2018, following advice received from the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Joan Honore-Paul, on that same day.
