Two employees of Crime Watch Host Ian Alleyne were remanded into custody yesterday after appearing in court charged with stealing $10,000.

One of them, Akile Simon, a former journalist, suffered a seizure in court and had to be taken for medical treatment.

Simon, 36, of Curepe and Sheldon Ramnath, 27, of La Romaine stood before Chaguanas Senior Magistrate Rajendra Ramcharan charged with larceny servant. Ramnath pleaded guilty while Simon pleaded not guilty.

The charge stemmed from an incident on Friday, January 10. Alleyne had secured the money in his vehicle in the parking lot of his studio at Endeavour Road, Chaguanas. When he returned a few hours later the money was missing. The two men were subsequently arrested.

Police later recovered $2,500 at Ramnath’s home.

Ramnath’s attorney Taradath Singh said he owned a small business but had to close it down and found himself in financial debt.

Singh said his client took Alleyne’s money to clear the debt. The magistrate remanded them into custody until Monday for the police to run a trace to ascertain if they had a criminal record.

While in the holding bay, however, Simon suffered a seizure and was taken for medical treatment at the health facility.
