Fire fighters are still at the scene of a fire at the People’s Mall on Henry Street in Port-of-Spain.
According to reports, the fire started at the site around 7.45 am.
Fire fighters were quickly on the scene and were able to contain the blaze to a few of the booths on the site.
Booth owners who were around the trouble spot were seen desperately trying to salvage whatever they could as fire fighters worked to prevent the fire from spreading.
Four booths were completely destroyed while three others were damaged by the time the fire was brought completely under control.
Assistant Divisional Fire Officer Williamson told Guardian Media they received a trouble call around just before 8 am and appliances from Port-of-Spain, Belmont and Woodbrook responded.
He said they were able to bring the fire under control relatively quickly.
There was also a fire at the site in June.
Overall, this was the fourth fire at the mall, it having been hit by similar disasters in 2017 and 2015.
In 2015, some 140 booths were destroyed after a car battery exploded and led to a million-dollar fire.
