Five in court for illegal guns

A Venezue­lan woman and her Trinida­di­an hus­band were each grant­ed $150,000 bail on Mon­day on arms and am­mu­ni­tion charges.

Shan­non Lee Mo­hammed and Yor­dias del Car­men Ramos Pago­da who were ar­rest­ed on Sat­ur­day ap­peared be­fore San Fer­nan­do Sec­ond Court Mag­is­trate Anselm Le­an­der.


The po­lice in­ter­cept­ed their ve­hi­cle along Di­a­mond Vil­lage, San Fer­nan­do, af­ter re­ceiv­ing in­for­ma­tion. Charg­ing of­fi­cer, PC Mat­loo searched the van and al­leged­ly found a shot­gun and three 12 gauge car­tridges on the floor of the back seat.

They were both charged with pos­ses­sion of a firearm and am­mu­ni­tion. The mat­ter was ad­journed to Au­gust 8.

In the same court, Leela Sa­hadeo, her daugh­ter Cyan Sa­hadeo and son Michael Miguel ap­peared in court charged with pos­ses­sion of a firearm, am­mu­ni­tion and mar­i­jua­na.

They were ar­rest­ed on Sat­ur­day af­ter PC Ma­habir and oth­er of­fi­cers, ex­e­cut­ed a search war­rant at their apart­ment at La­dy Hailes Ave, San Fer­nan­do.

It is al­leged that on top a tele­vi­sion stand in the liv­ing room the po­lice found a Beretta pis­tol with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 11 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion, as well as 30.4 grammes of mar­i­jua­na.

The mag­is­trate grant­ed both women $175,000 bail and re­mand­ed Miguel in­to cus­tody for trac­ing. The po­lice claimed Miguel re­fused to give his fin­ger­prints. The mat­ter was ad­journed to next month.
