Hard labour for two San Fernando men charged with robbery at bar

Two San Fernando men each pleaded guilty to four counts of robbery with aggravation, against four victims during a bar robbery, when they appeared before a Princes Town Magistrate.

Hubert Riley, 26, and Shyeim Proverbs, 22, both of Pleasantville, San Fernando, appeared before Senior Magistrate Rae Roopchand, in the Princes Town 1st Magistrates’ Court, on Monday 23rd July, 2018, to answer to the charges.

Riley was sentenced to 30 months’ hard labour for each count, while Proverbs was sentenced to 48 months’ hard labour for each count.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

The four victims, including the proprietors, were at the establishment at Hope Road, Princes Town, around 8:30 pm on Wednesday 18th July, 2018, when two men, one armed with a gun, entered and announced a robbery.

The assailants proceeded to rob the bar owners of a quantity of alcohol and the bar patrons, of a quantity of valuables, including cellular phones and cash, before escaping on foot. Officers of the Princes Town CID responded to the report of robbery and arrested the two suspects a short distance away in a bushy area around 10:30 pm, on the same date.

A quantity of the stolen items was also found in the possession of the suspects.

Riley and Proverbs, were charged by PC Jesse Mitchell of the Princes Town CID, on Saturday 21st July, 2018.
