Hochoy's grandson charged for murder

The grand­son of for­mer To­ba­go House of As­sem­bly Chief Sec­re­tary ap­peared in court on Fri­day charged for mur­der.

Shauneil Charles, 22, of Gold­en Lane, ap­peared be­fore a Jus­tice of the Peace at the Scar­bor­ough Mag­is­trates Court charged with the mur­der of re­tired po­lice of­fi­cer and busi­ness­man Don­ald "Son­ny" Parks.

The ac­cused is sched­uled to reap­pear be­fore a Scar­bor­ough Mag­is­trate on March 25.

Parks was shot dead at his Sum­mer Hill home on March 12 dur­ing a rob­bery. An undis­closed sum of Trinidad and To­ba­go and Unit­ed States cur­ren­cy was tak­en.

Charles sur­ren­dered to po­lice with an at­tor­ney the day af­ter Parks' mur­der.

The ac­cused has sev­er­al gun-re­lat­ed and rob­bery mat­ters pend­ing be­fore the court.

Parks was the own­er of the pop­u­lar En­deav­our's Chil­dren and Ma­ter­ni­ty Store lo­cat­ed at Car­ring­ton Street, Scar­bor­ough. He fu­ner­al is sched­uled for March 27, at the Scar­bor­ough Methodist Church at 10 am.

In 2018, Ho­choy Charles, the leader of the Plat­form for Truth, held a press con­fer­ence in de­fence of his grand­son and plead­ed for him to be grant­ed bail and re­leased into his care. His grand­son had been trans­ferred to a prison in Trinidad for of­fences in­clud­ing mar­i­jua­na, arms and am­mu­ni­tion, dan­ger­ous dri­ving and es­cap­ing law­ful cus­tody.

Charles al­so al­leged that there was a plan to "or­gan­ise his death" in Trinidad. He had al­so con­tact­ed THA Chief Sec­re­tary Kelvin Charles and then Min­is­ter of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty Ed­mund Dil­lon seek­ing their in­ter­ven­tion.
