Kidnapping suspect dies at hospital

One of the suspects involved in the kidnapping of two medical doctors yesterday has died at the San Fernando General Hospital, while another remains warded under police guard.

19-year-old Akeem Marine of Lady Hailes Avenue, San Fernando, succumbed to his injuries around 7:00 am today.

The third suspect, also a 19-year-old of Lady Hailes Avenue, San Fernando, was discharged overnight and is currently in police custody.

One of the victims in the incident, 39-year-old Dr. Prem Vijay Naidoo, was also discharged yesterday from hospital.

Dr. Naidoo and 39-year-old Dr. Rudradeva Sharma, doctors at the San Fernando General Hospital, were allegedly kidnapped by three armed assailants around 11:58pm.

The car in which the suspects and victims were travelling subsequently crashed along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway in the Macaulay Village, Claxton Bay district.

Dr. Sharma died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

A pistol and a quantity of ammunition were discovered at the scene. Investigations are ongoing.
