Ministry hopes to open first phase of the Mosquito Creek Highway Extension by Wednesday

The Minister of Works and Transport is hoping to open the first phase of the Mosquito Creek segment of the Solomon Hochoy Highway Extension to Point Fortin by Wednesday.

Minister Rohan Sinanan made the revelation during a sitting of the Standing Finance Committee this afternoon.

"The first phase of the creek - we are hoping we'd have it opened on Wednesday so the problem on the creek would be something of the past. After 50, 60 years, from Wednesday that should be something of the past," he said.

Mosquito Creek is a main artery for motorists to access the southwestern peninsula of Trinidad and Tobago, however, the road becomes flooded daily with seawater during the high tides.

Residents and motorists have complained for years that this results in overwhelming traffic and damage to their vehicles.

The entire segment of highway is carded to be opened to vehicular traffic by the end of October 2020.
