Oropouche East Member of Parliament, Dr Roodal Moonilal says the decision by Government Members of Parliament to call for him to be referred to the Privileges Committee of Parliament on two issues, is tantamount to harassment and intimidation.
In a statement today, Moonilal said, however, that he has faith in the institutions of Parliament and is not afraid of the process.
Dr Moonilal has been referred to the Privileges Committee for statements he made in the Lower House regarding Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and A&V Oil and Gas Limited.
The House Speaker, Bridgid Annisette-George has also been asked to consider whether he breached Parliament's privileges, for a statement made in reference to Laventille West MP Fitzgerald Hinds.
The Hansard recorded that statement as "Da is why Snake have some lead for you.”
"I consider this to be an abuse by the People’s National Movement and the Keith Rowley government," Moonilal said on Wednesday.
This is tantamount to a campaign of harassment, intimidation and an attempt to instill fear in myself and other Opposition voices. We will not be intimidated. We will not be frightened. We will keep our focus on the AV Drilling fake-oil matter and the remarkable series of events unfolding on a daily basis that would link that scandal to key officials in and out of government," Moonilal said.
He said, however, that he is prepared to face the Committee of Privileges on the matter.
"I look forward to the meetings of the Privileges Committee. I have full respect for the institutions of the Parliament and that matter will be dealt with by myself in conjunction with advisors. I have no fear of the Privileges Committee or the court on this matter," he said.
He is also calling for an independent neutral inquiry into his allegations.
