NCRHA head: Venezuelans can give blood too

Chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer of the North Cen­tral Re­gion­al Health Au­thor­i­ty (NCRHA) Dalvin Thomas has said that Venezue­lan na­tion­als can do­nate blood to the Blood Bank.

He said, how­ev­er, the blood will be test­ed.

He made the state­ment at yes­ter­day’s World Blood Donor Day sym­po­sium host­ed by the Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies Fac­ul­ty of Med­ical Sci­ences, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with North Cen­tral Re­gion­al Health Au­thor­i­ty.

The theme of the cel­e­bra­tion was Save Blood For All. The event was held at the Am­phithe­athre A , Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex Champ Fleur.

Thomas said that Venezue­lan na­tion­als and oth­er vis­i­tors can give blood if they wish.

He said the NCRHA has al­so en­gaged in the walk- the- talk artery where they vis­it church­es ,mosque to get blood donors. He said this saves time, mon­ey and in­con­ve­niences to blood donors.

Dr Melis­sa Fri­day, who al­so at­tend­ed yes­ter­day’s event, al­so thanked the blood donors for their life -sav­ing gift of blood and to make peo­ple be aware of the im­por­tance of giv­ing blood, so that all in need of blood can have ac­cess to the Blood Bank.

She said there is need for blood as 65,000 units are re­quired an­nu­al­ly, but present­ly there is a short­age of 22 units.
