WASA has issued an official statement concerning rumours circulating in social media, that water rates will be increased soon. The statement reads as follows:
“The Water and Sewerage Authority (the Authority) has taken note of certain publications being circulated on social media. In this regard the Authority wishes to advise customers and the public that there has been no new increase to its rates and it applies rates as approved by the Regulated Industries Commission under the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) Order #83 of 1993.
“The rates for water and wastewater services provided by the Authority are determined by the Regulated Industries Commission (RIC) and the process for consideration and determination of rate increase involves consultation with the public.
“Any customer that has any queries on their bill may contact us at the following numbers and we will be happy to resolve any issues:
- North… 662-2302 Ext 2686 / 2644
- South… 662-2302 Ext 6200 /6194

According to a statement issued late yesterday on the RIC’S Facebook page, the RIC has been reviewing water rates, in accordance with its statutory mandate and obligations.
The RIC says there will be no adjustment in water rates, until it has completed its review exercise.
The RIC expressed concern with the posts being circulated in social media about a possible water rates hike.
In the statement, the RIC reminds the public that it is charged with the legal responsibility and authority, to determine rates and tariffs for the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA).
