The National Petroleum Marketing Company (NP) says it is aware of reports of fuel being contaminated with water at a few service stations.
This follows claims by the Petroleum Dealers Association, that eight gas stations received fuel on Monday with water in it.
In a brief statement issued this morning, NP said it "wishes to assure the public that this is a contained situation and that NP remains committed to ensuring that its investigations and analysis of the matter are concluded as quickly as possible".
NP says that any issues identified will be addressed expeditiously.
The owners were forced to drain the tanks to remove the water as it is harmful to vehicles.
