Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has initiated legal action against Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal and another member of the United National Congress.
A statement by the Office of the Prime Minister today says that having been advised by his attorneys that he has legal recourse, Dr Rowley has instructed his attorney to file suit for libel against Member of Parliament for Oropouche East, Dr Roodal Moonilal and United National Congress, Chaguanas Alderman and Public Relations Officer of the UNC National Women’s Arm, Marisa Ramlogan in connections with allegations initially made in Parliament by Dr Moonilal on October 09 2018.
The Office of the Prime Minister has also confirmed that Dr Rowley has written to Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith and the Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), Susan Francois, asking them to initiate investigations into Dr Moonilal's claims.
On Wednesday, the prime minister denied claims that he has an account in any financial institution in the United States.
Dr Moonilal made the claims during Tuesday's Budget debate in Parliament, where he allegedly read from documents he claimed showed the Prime Minister had benefited from financial transactions conducted through a Florida-based bank.
