Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accidental shooting death of a Police Constable in the Blanchisseuse district, this morning.
PC Dave Raghonanan, last attached to the Guard and Emergency Branch, was shot during a hunting trip with friends at Petit Tacariqe Bay, Paria, Blanchisseuse.
Around midnight on Friday 30th November, 2018, officers attached to the Blanchisseuse Police Station received information from Command Centre, that an officer was accidentally shot while hunting.
Petit Tacariqe Bay is located on an isolated islet off Blanchisseuse, which can only be accessed via boat or helicopter.
PC Raghonanan was airlifted out of the forest by a helicopter and arrived at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, around 7:20 this morning.
Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Officers are present at the scene, interviewing other members of the hunting trip.
The Commissioner of Police extends his sincerest condolences to the family and friends of PC Raghonanan for their loss.
