Ten persons were arrested and a Mac 10 machine gun seized, by officers of the Port of Spain Criminal Investigations Department (CID) during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the East Port of Spain district this morning.
The exercise, spearheaded by head of the CID, Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Ajith Persad, and including officers from the Inter-Agency Task Force, Guard and Emergency Branch, Port of Spain Division, Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit, Canine Branch and the Court and Process Branch, was conducted along Nelson and Duncan Streets, between 7 am and 1 pm.
A search of the area resulted in the Mac 10 firearm loaded with a magazine, being discovered hidden under a pile of debris, at the corner of Duncan and Prince Streets.
The ten suspects, all males between the ages of 21-years-old and 32- years-old, were arrested on enquiries in relation to firearm-related offences committed in the East Port of Spain area.
