Prison officer caught trying to take weed into Maximum Security Prison

A prisons officer was caught attempting to smuggle marijuana and a sum of cash into the Maximum Security Prison at Arouca on Saturday around 7:30 pm, police said in a statement.

The accused was caught with three packets of marijuana in his lunch bag at the Maximum Security Prison by Acting Supt. of Prisons R. Dass.

A further search of the Prisons Officer’s car revealed an additional five (5) packets of marijuana and $4,000 in cash.

A total of eight packets of marijuana weighing approximately 427 grams were discovered.

Cpl Ramcharan, of the Arouca Criminal Investigations Department, laid the charges.
