Problem at Caroni Plant leads to water woes in North & South Trinidad

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is advising customers served by the Caroni Water Treatment Plant, who are currently experiencing low pressures or no water supply that this is due to a power supply problem, which has been affecting the facility intermittently over the past 48 to 72 hours.

WASA says this situation has resulted at times, in reduced production at the plant, from the normal 75 million gallons per day (mgd) to 55 mgd.

The issue is being addressed in collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC), in order for the problem to be corrected in the shortest possible time.

The areas affected include:

North Trinidad:
Santa Cruz Upper Laventille
Upper Barataria Upper St. Anns
Upper Cascade Upper St. James
Belmont Cocorite

South West Peninsula from San Fernando to Point Fortin:
San Fernando Vistabella
Marabella Cocoyea
Pleasantville Palmiste
Debe Penal
Wellington San Francique
Siparia Fyzabad
Rousillac Sobo
La Brea

Customers are further advised that it may take 12 to 24 hours for the service to normalize.
