Rio Claro man on eight charges of sexual abuse of a minor

A Rio Claro man is remanded into custody after appearing before a Sangre Grande Magistrate charged with eight counts of sexual abuse against a female minor, which are alleged to have occurred between the period June 2011 and December 2017.

Clint Bittan, 48, a labourer, of Tabaquite Road, Rio Claro, was charged with five counts of sexual penetration, two counts of grievous sexual assault and one count of sexual intercourse with a child under 14-yearsold, when he appeared before Magistrate Cheron Raphael, in the Sangre Grande 1st Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday 16th August, 2018.

The accused was not called upon to plead and the matter was adjourned to Tuesday 21st August, 2018, before being transferred to the Rio Claro Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, is alleged to have committed the offences against the victim between the period June 2011 and December 2017, in the Rio Claro district.

A report was made to the police on January 6th 2018, by the victim’s father and an investigation launched.

The accused was arrested by officers of the Child Protection Unit, Eastern Division, on Wednesday 15th August, 2018.

Investigations were supervised by Insp. (Ag.) Darren Baptiste and W/Cpl Lisa Felix and Bittan was charged by WPC Alicia Guerra-Kerr, on Thursday 16th August, 2018.
