A Sangre Grande man appeared before a Sangre Grande Magistrate today for abusing a minor.
The accused pleaded not guilty when he appeared before a Sangre Grande Magistrate.
He was remanded into custody until February 10th where the matter is expected to resume.
According to police reports, on January 5th a report was made to the Child Protection Unit (CPU) concerning a video circulating on social media where a female minor was seen being physically abused.
An investigation, spearheaded by W/Supt (Ag.) George, W/ASP Guy- Alleyne, Insp (Ag.) Baptiste and WPC Williams-James of the CPU was immediately launched in collaboration with the Children’s Authority which concluded with the suspect being subsequently arrested and charged on January 11th for the offence of Cruelty to a Child, contrary to Section 4 of the Children Act 12 of 2012.
For the year thus far, the CPU has charged seven persons for breaches of sexual offences against children and one for cruelty to a child.
