Soca Princesses fail to qualify for World Cup after defeat to Mexico

Trinidad and Tobago's Soca Princesses will not be going to the World Cup in France, after a second straight defeat in the CONCACAF group stage of qualifying.

T&T lost 4-1 to Mexico on Sunday, following a 3-0 defeat to Panama last week.

Mexico needed the win to stay alive in Group A with one more match to go in the stage.

Charlyn Corral scored twice.

Her first goal came in the 33rd minute when Trinidad goalkeeper Kimika Forbes popped away a shot right into Corral's path for the easy tap in. Jonelle Cato tied the game with a penalty kick in the 50th minute.

Katie Johnson's header pulled Mexico back in front in the 55th minute. Corral scored her second some seven minutes later and Maria Sanchez added a header in the 71st.

Mexico lost 6-0 to the United States in its Group A opener.

T&T will play powerhouse USA on Wednesday.

Group B, which includes Canada, Cuba, Jamaica and Costa Rica, is playing in Edinburg, Texas.

The top two finishers in each group will advance to the semifinals in Frisco, Texas on Oct. 14.
