A report of a suspicious package led to the closure of 42nd Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues Wednesday morning, the latest sign the city's jitters have not eased from Saturday's bombing in Chelsea.
Police confirmed the bomb squad was responding as a precaution.
Photos on social media show both ends of the highly trafficked street closed to cars and pedestrians, and city officials said to expect traffic delays and road closures in the area as the investigation continued.
It was not immediately clear what or where the reported package was, though some said on Twitter it was near or in front of the McDonald's restaurant on the block.
Suspicious package reports have been common since Saturday night, when a bomb exploded on 23rd Street, injuring 31 people, and a second bomb was found on 27th Street.
