Tobago Forwards condemns Sat Maharaj

The Tobago Forwards' (TF)  has joined the chorus of voices denouncing  Secretary-General of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha Sat Maharaj's characterisation of Tobagonians as rapists with a lazy disposition.

Maharaj made those statements on his television station TV Jaagriti on Tuesday.

Tobagonian leaders, Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles and Minority Leader Watson Duke, have already decried Maharaj's remarks.

In a statement," TF's leader Christlyn Moore said: "More is expected from men who lead in the name of God."

However, she noted that although his statements "are designed to inflame tensions and create enmity," Tobagonians will not respond in a similar manner.

"Tobagonians however, will not be goaded into meeting hate with hate. Instead, we take the opportunity to remind him that we are proud participants in nation-building."

She added: "We are neither beggars nor supplicants ...and we stand ready together with the rest of the twin-island to denounce mischief in high places."
