The T&T Electricity Commission (T&TEC) said the fault on an underground electrical cable which caused a small explosion outside the Hall of Justice has been isolated and repairs will begin this afternoon.
In a media statement, T&TEC said the incident occurred at approximately 9.15 am and caused an outage in downtown Port-of-Spain.
Its engineers responded immediately and restored the electricity supply to customers in Port-of-Spain.
The cause of the fault has not yet been determined.
"The Minister of National Security, the Honourable Stuart Young, addressed the matter in a media conference at the Hall of Justice and confirmed that there was no national security threat stemming out of the explosion," T&TEC said.
