The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is (TTPS) is actively investigating a report of robbery with violence against a cruise ship passenger who was touring Port of Spain yesterday.
According to police reports, the 72-year-old victim and her 74-year-old husband, both of the United Kingdom, were sitting on a bench in the vicinity of the St. Ann’s roundabout around 12noon on Boxing Day when they were approached by a man armed with a knife.
The man attempted to take the victim’s bag from her possession by cutting at the strap with the knife.
During the altercation, the victim sustained a wound to her left hand. The assailant then escaped with the bag which contained a number of valuables.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment and is said to be in satisfactory condition.
She is expected to be discharged tomorrow.
According to data from the Port of Spain Division, approximately 20,000 tourists have visited the capital city for the year thus far, and this is the first such report of an attack on a tourist.
Commissioner Griffith says members of the TTPS will continue to engage in regular patrols and sustain a heightened presence, to ensure the safety and security of all persons.
