After hours of surveillance, police arrested a farmer from Siparia and charged him with trafficking marijuana on Wednesday.
Investigators say around 4 pm, Sgt Jaggernath, Cpl Ramlal and a party of officers from the Siparia CID, went to Grell Street, Siparia where they paid surveillance and saw the farmer sitting on the front steps of his home holding a blue bag.
The officers saw the farmer collecting some money from a man and putting it in his front shirt pocket.
The farmer handed his customer a packet believed to be marijuana.
Officers approached the farmer and executed a search.
They seized the blue bag which contained 220.5 grammes of marijuana valued at $4,400.
They also seized $133 from the farmer.
The male buyer managed to escape.
The farmer was taken to the Siparia CID where he was charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
He is expected to appear before a Siparia Magistrate today.
