One Venezuelan national was detained by officers of the Emergency Response Patrol Unit, during an anti-crime exercise, last evening.
According to official police reports, whilst on patrol along Debe Main Road, officers PC Charles and PC Tambie had cause to search a Venezuelan national.
The officers found in his possession, one Beretta pistol with 6 rounds 9mm ammunition.
Officers seized the gun and ammunition and the suspect was arrested and taken to the Barrackpore Police Station.
Enquiries are continuing.
Former Attorney General Anand Ramlogan was arrested at the Piarco airport early today, and Gerald Ramdeen, a UNC colleague, was taken in custody by anti-corruption police who are investigating allegations of kickbacks and money laundering linked to high legal fees paid during the attorney general's tenure.
Ramlogan was detained at the Piarco International Airport around 4:15 a.m. shortly before he was expected to board a flight to the British Virgin Islands, where he was scheduled to appear in court.
32 illegal immigrants have been arrested by Police after being found in Penal.
Police say Officers from the South Western Division and Immigration Division were conducting an exercise. They held seven persons at a house in Suchit Trace, Penal, while 23 others were discovered in a Penal bar. Police say 31 out of the 32 held were Venezuelan Nationals, while one is from Guyana. Nine persons were given notices and allowed to leave, while the others are being held. Police say three persons were also arrested for gaming machine offences. Investigations are ongoing.
Police detained 35 foreign nationals suspected of prostitution during a raid at a hotel and bar in central Trinidad, early yesterday.
The foreigners, ten men and 25 women, were held as officers of the Port-of-Spain CID, led by Senior Supt Ajith Persad, raided Rich Gold Hotel and Bar located along the Southern Main Road in Chase Village.
While police suspect they were all engaged in prostitution, they could not charge them for that offence as no one was caught in the act.
A 32-year-old Sangre Grande woman has been arrested for stealing a gun and ammunition from a security officer at a casino.
The incident is said to have taken place at a gambling establishment in the Sangre Grande area after midnight.
The officer reported to police that he was on duty at the casino, armed with the weapon, when he went to the washroom and placed it on the toilet tank.
Minutes after leaving the washroom, he realised he had left the gun behind and returned to retrieve it, but did not find it.
A second Golconda man, charged with assaulting two Ste. Madeleine police officers, is expected to appear before a San Fernando Magistrate today, to answer the charge.

The exercise, which was supervised by Cpl. Ramesh Dhunkarie, took place between 7 pm and 11 pm, in the Ste. Madeleine district.
Two men and a teenager are arrested by officers of the Northern Division, half an hour after committing a robbery at an Arouca hardware.
The three suspects, a 32-year-old man of Arouca, 24-year-old man of Wallerfield and the 17-year-old boy of San Juan, who was armed with a firearm, entered the hardware, located along the Eastern Main Road, Arouca, around 5 pm, on Thursday 3rd April, 2018, and announced a robbery.
The manager of the store and another employee, became fearful for their lives and handed over a quantity of cash.
