An accident in Barrackpore has claimed the life of a man.
Police reports suggest that shortly before 8pm on Tuesday the driver of a motor car collided with a man identified as 46-year-old Roland Rampersad along Roshard Road, Barrackpore.
Upon impact the man was thrown into the air and landed several feet away from the accident.
Police pronounced the man dead on the scene.
The driver of the motor car is assisting police with investigations.
One man was arrested and a revolver and a quantity of ammunition seized by officers of the Barrackpore Police Station, during an anti-crime exercise in the district yesterday.
Acting on information received, officers went to Dany’s Paradise Bar at Rochard Road, Barrackpore, around 8:15 pm on Wednesday 21st February, 2018.
There, the officers had cause to search a 51-year-old patron of the bar.
During the search, officers discovered a Rossi revolver with five rounds of .38mm ammunition in his possession.
The suspect was arrested in connection with the find.
Police are investigating the discovery of a body discovered on Tuesday in Petrotrin's Barrackpore Field.
A statement from Petrotrin says that the body of the man, who is yet to be identified, was found at an old compressor station.
Petrotrin says the station has been out of operation for several years.
The statement says that upon discovery of the body, the police and the District Medical Officer were notified and later responded.
The body was removed around 8 pm.
Investigations into the matter are continuing.
Police are now investigating reports of a kidnapping involving a 34-year-old Debe woman, Ria Sookdeo.
Relatives of the mother of three say she was abducted this morning after she dropped her children off at school.
Police have arrested a 28-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman in Barrackpore, with three high-powered firearms and several kilogrammes of cocaine.
The woman is from the Dominican Republic.
The weapons seized included an AR 15, an AK 47 and a Glock pistol, together with several cartridges and 7.62 ammunition.
