Five bars closed as police crack down on illegal gambling

Five bar owners appeared before a Siparia Magistrate today charged with breaching the Gambling and Betting Act Chapter 11:19

Five bars in the South Western Division are now closed after breaches in their licenses were discovered during an anti-crime operation, targeting bars in the Fyzabad and Oropouche districts last evening.

Chaguanas Mayor suggests closing bars, nightspots by 2 am to help curb crime

Chaguanas Mayor Gopaul Boodhan says a conversation must begin to discuss the possible closing of bars and other nightspots in Chaguanas, by 2 am for the latest.

The Mayor says he believes this will have a positive impact on crime in the borough.


He spoke to CNC3 on Sunday, saying it pains him to see the number of deaths of young people in Chaguanas and across the country.

Chaguanas Carnival Committee wants no bars along Carnival parade route

The Chaguanas Carnival Committee is seeking to disallow the presence of all bars along Ramsaran Street, the main route that bands would be taking on Carnival Monday and Tuesday.

This was announced by CCC Chairman Ronald Heera when the committee met with band-leaders on Monday night at the Chaguanas Borough Corporation at Cumberbatch Street.


Mayor Gopaul Boodhan emphasized that safety will be given paramount importance for Carnival celebrations in the borough.
