The entire Easter and Christmas collections go toward supporting the clergy, Gordon said during an interview in this week’s publication of the Catholic News.
Since 2015, the average amount collected from all the Roman Catholic churches around the country during Christmas has been $1.5 million.
Pope Francis met briefly today with a delegation of four British Muslim clerics and praised their contribution to dialogue between different faiths and cultures.
“I like to think that the most important job we have to do between us, as humanity, is done with our ears, by listening,” Francis told the four-man group as he greeted them warmly at the Vatican for a private audience.
