Son of former police commissioner shot dead

The son of former Commissioner of Police Kenny Mohammed has been killed in a home invasion.

Reports indicate that Nizam Mohammed was at his home at Lillian Heights, off the Old Road in Arouca.

A group of armed men reportedly stormed the premises and opened fire.

The family was robbed last week, two firearms were taken in that incident.

Investigations are continuing.

Murder in Las Cuevas

An early morning shooting has claimed the life of one man.

Reports indicate that the murder occurred around 3:20 am on Monday.

Residents of Las Cuevas village heard several loud explosions.

The police were called in and discovered the body of a man identified as Roger Clement lying in a pool of blood.

Investigations are ongoing.

 

16-year-old boy murdered on Prince Street

A 16-year-old boy was shot dead in Port-of-Spain last evening. 

The deceased has been identified as Shaquille Pierre of Eastern Quarry, Laventille.

Police reported that the incident took place just after 8 pm at a basketball court in Port-of-Spain.

George Street residents reported hearing loud explosions and upon investigating they observed the body of a young man on the ground.

Police believed his killing may be linked to a dispute he had with two groups in the area.

 

$2 million a year to maintain peace in Enterprise

The cost to maintain a 24-hour presence in crime hotspot of Enterprise, Chaguanas can cost of the T&T Police Service (TTPS) in excess of $2 million a year.

Operation Enterprise was launched by the Minister of National Security, Edmund Dillon on March 28 due to the upsurge in murders and violent crime in the area.

The initiative is a joint collaboration with the TTPS and the T&T Regiment to stamp out violence among warring gangs.

Uzi gun, drugs seized in Morvant, Los Iros

An Uzi sub-machine gun and quantities of ammunition and drugs were found by officers of the North Eastern Division during anticrime exercises, in the Los Iros and Morvant areas, a statement by the police said.

The officers under Sgt. (Ag.), Simeon Guelmo and supervised by Supt. (Ag.), Neville Adams, acting on information received first went to a busy area at Los Iros Road, Los Iros, on Tuesday 25th April, 2017, where a search was carried out.

During the search, they found 2.4 kilogrammes of marijuana with a street value of $31,200, hidden near a tree stump.

Two charged with gun possession in Vistabella

Two Vistabella men are expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate, charged with possession of firearms and ammunition, following an anti-crime exercise in the Southern Division.

Officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force, acting on information received, conducted the exercise on Monday 24th April, 2017, at Olera Heights Drive, Vistabella.

There, they searched a Hyundai Accent vehicle and arrested and charged the driver, Nazir Mohammed, 32, of Jarvis Street, Vistabella, for being in possession of one Maverick shotgun.

Murder in Tarodale

A 69-year-old man has been shot and killed in Tarodale, St Madeline.

Reports around 8;20 pm on Tuesday, residents reported hearing a loud explosion, upon checking they observed that a car had ran off the road.

Further checks revealed that the driver was motionless.

Police destroy 1,000 marijuana plants in Freeport

An eradication exercise in the Freeport district has resulted in over one thousand fully grown marijuana trees, with an estimated street value of $50,000, being destroyed. 

Police say officers of the Freeport Police Station, acting on information received, conducted the exercise between 10 am and 12 noon on Saturday 22nd April, 2017, in the vicinity of Roopsingh Road, Freeport.

No arrests were made in connection with the find.

Cocaine, marijuana, guns seized in San Fernando

Two guns and quantities of cocaine and marijuana, worth over $100,000 in total, have been seized in San Fernando, police said in a statement today.

The statement said that around 3:30 pm on Thursday 20th April, 2017, officers of the San Fernando CID, conducted searches of several boats and abandoned shacks along King’s Wharf, San Fernando.

There, they discovered two Taurus pistols hidden under the wooden floor of a shack.

One of the pistols was fitted with a magazine, containing six rounds of .9mm ammunition.

20-year-old Mt Hope woman among three charged with possession of firearm, ammunition

Anti-crime exercises conducted by officers of the North Eastern Division, have led to three persons being charged, two men being detained and the seizure of three firearms and a quantity of ammunition, a police statement said.

Around 10:50 am on Monday 24th April, 2017, officers of the Rapid Response Unit, intercepted a gold Nissan Almera motorcar, at Croisee, San Juan, with three occupants.

A search of the vehicle yielded one gun and 49 rounds of .9mm ammunition.
