Flooding woes continue

Thirty-five families have been rescued from floodwaters in Penal, and several other families have managed to make their way out of danger to stay with relatives.

Confirmation came today from local government councillor for Penal, Shanti Boodram, who also is a flood victim, herself.

The Penal councillor told Guardian Media that many people have lost everything in their homes, as well as their crops, their livestock and their livelihoods to the raging flood waters.

Cabinet to get report on flooding today

Cabinet will be getting a report today on the flooding situation in the Penal-Debe Regional Corporation.

This after both the ministers for Works and Transport Minister, as well as Rural Development and Local Governement, have an opportunity to liaise with their teams in the field.

Ministers Rohan Sinanan and Kazim Hosein have joined their respective teams who have been working on the ground in response to the flooding in the riverine areas of Penal Rock Road, Barrackpore and Debe.

Venezuelan Arrested with Gun and Ammo

One  Venezuelan  national  was  detained  by  officers  of  the Emergency Response Patrol Unit,  during  an anti-crime  exercise, last evening.

According to official police reports, whilst  on  patrol  along   Debe  Main  Road, officers PC Charles and PC Tambie had cause to  search  a  Venezuelan  national.

The officers found  in  his possession, one Beretta pistol with 6  rounds 9mm ammunition.

Officers  seized  the  gun  and  ammunition  and  the  suspect  was arrested and taken to the Barrackpore Police Station.

Enquiries are continuing.


Debe man reported missing

Police are seeking the urgent assistance of the public in locating 37-year-old Dale Hamil.

Hamil, of Lalbeharry Trace, Debe, was last seen by his wife at 10 pm on Saturday 6th April, 2019, at their home.

He was later reported missing on Sunday 7th April, 2019, to the Barrackpore Police Station, by his wife.

Hamil is of mixed descent, 5 feet 10 inches tall, slim built with a dark brown complexion, beard and curly hair.

He was last seen wearing a red and blue striped football jersey, black three-quarter pants and slippers.

Debe Exit accident kills father and son

A father and son are this country's latest road fatalities after a late evening accident claimed the lives of the two men and left one man in critical condition.
According to reports just before 10 pm on Wednesday at the exit of Debe Highway, the vehicle ran off the road. 
A video later surfaced on Social Media showing the unconscious men pinned to the destroyed vehicle. One man is heard in the background saying, "they just pass me there you know".

Debe man charged with possession of ammunition

One man has been arrested and charged for possession of ammunition and a prohibited weapon, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Debe district yesterday.

During the exercise, officers of the Barrackpore Criminal Investigations Department, executed a search warrant at the home of a suspect at Transfer Village, Debe on Wednesday.

The search resulted in officers discovering one AK-47 magazine loaded with 25 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, hidden in the house.
