The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development will begin construction of a $4 million Drag Mall in the capital city next year, Housing Minister Edmund Dillon said during yesterday’s Standing Finance Committee session in Parliament.
He made the comment in response to questions from Opposition MP Dr Roodal Moonilal on plans for the “development and management of a property” at 43 Independence Square, Port-of-Spain.
Dillon said the property was referred to as the “Drag Mall,” which is located next to New City Mall.
An early morning fire in downtown Port of Spain has gutted several businesses and caused over a quarter million dollars in damages.
The fire started just after 9 am this morning.
Witnesses say they saw smoke coming from a closed booth and alerted the Fire Service. However, by the time they arrived, the fire had already consumed the entire building. The firefighters did manage to contain the blaze and stop the fire from spreading to the nearby New City Mall.
