Small earthquake shakes Trinidad

A small earthquake shook parts of Trinidad this afternoon, measuring 4.3 on the Richter Scale.

The earthquake occurred at 5:24 pm at latitude 10.82 north and longitude 62.00 west at a depth of 10 km. 

Earthquake recorded this morning

UWI’s Seismic Research Centre has documented an earthquake of magnitude 5.1 on the Richter scale, at 4:11 this morning, at the north-eastern tip of Venezuela.

The earthquake was situated at latitude: 10.75 north, and longitude: 62.20 west. It was at a depth of 10 km.

For Trinidadians, the quake was located 77 km west of Port of Spain; 99 km north west of San Fernando; and 102 km west of Arima.

4.2 earthquake felt in T&T

Trinidad and Tobago has been rocked by another small earthquake.

The earthquake occurred at 1:33 pm today, measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale.

The earthquake occurred 96.9 kilometres north-west of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago at a depth of 25.7 kilometres.




Soil tests resume on earthquake-devastated lands

Researchers have returned to continue soil tests on earthquake devastated lands in Los Iros with the hope of finding out why land formations occurred following the 6.9 magnitude earthquake last August.

The tests are being done at Los Iros near the bubbling Erin Bouff mud volcanoes on the southern coasts which have been oozing liquid mud. 

The slurries from the Anglais Point Mud Volcano at Lorensotte have reached down to the sea.

T&T shakes again - 9 earthquakes in 10 days

If you thought you felt another shaking this morning, you probably did.

The Seismic Research Centre at the University of the West Indies has recorded yet another earthquake, the 9th into days.

It was felt at 8:40 am today and measured 4.0 on the Richter Scale.

The earthquake occurred 117 kilometres SE of San Fernando.

Prior to today's shake, a 4.4 earthquake on Tuesday night was the 8th in 8 days.

3.8 shake today is earthquake number 6 in one week

Trinidad and Tobago has been shaken again, in the sixth earthquake in a week.

The Seismic Research Centre at the University of the West Indies said it occurred around 9:57 am today and measured 3.8.

It occurred 71 km SE of Carúpano,  Venezuela, 97 km NE of Maturín, Venezuela and 126 km WSW of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

This follows earthquakes felt last Saturday, Sunday, two on Tuesday and one on Thursday.
