President praises T&T multi-religious heritage

Pres­i­dent Paula--Mae Weekes be­lieves that this coun­try’s na­tion­al iden­ti­ty and ethos have been for­ti­fied by the en­dur­ing Is­lam­ic tenets of peace, for­give­ness and tol­er­ance.

The Pres­i­dent spoke to this coun­try’s mul­ti-re­li­gious and mul­ti- cul­tura; iden­ti­ty in her mes­sage to the coun­try on the ob­ser­vance of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Her mes­sage reads:

On the sight­ing of the new cres­cent moon, I bring greet­ings to the mem­bers of the Mus­lim com­mu­ni­ty as they cel­e­brate Eid-ul-Fitr and the end of the holy month of Ra­madan.

PM points to values of peace, love and equality in Eid message

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is encouraging the national community and the Muslim community to resolve to always demonstrate the peace, love and equality which are the inherent features of Islamic teachings.

In his message on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the prime minister is also urging citizens to direct their hearts towards strengthening the society based on mutual respect and love.

"Assalam-U-Aalikum,

Kamla urges peace, forgiveness in Eid message

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar says citizens need to ensure that the characteristics of peace, forgiveness and unity are instilled in our daily lives and she's calling for more care towards the less fortunate.

Persad-Bissessar made the call within her 2019 message to commemorate Eid-Ul-Fitr.

I wish all members of the Muslim community in Trinidad and Tobago Eid Mubarak!

Opposition Leader: "Resist attempts to promote discord"

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is calling on the nation to resist attempts to promote discord and division in the country our nation.

In her Eid message, the Opposition Leader described the attempts by some in our society to promote discord and divide our nation as troubling.  

She urged citizens to not let these persons achieve their goal.

She called on citizens to “join hands and work together to ensure that our nation returns to peace and prosperity. Together, we can make a difference, and bring about positive change.”

Government approves $2.1 million for Eid celebrations

Cabinet has approved $2.1 million in funding for Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrations this year.

Eid will be celebrated on Monday, June 26th.

Culture Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly announced at today's post-Cabinet news conference that 15 organisations will receive a total of $2,120,000.

Cabinet approves $3 million for Eid celebrations

Cabinet has agreed to spend just over $3 million dollars to fund Eid celebrations this year.

Minister of Community Development, Culture and The Arts Nyan Gadsby-Dolly says 15 organisations will benefit from a total of $3,075,000.

She did not name the 15 organisations when she made the announcement at today's post-Cabinet media conference.

The public holiday for Eid-Ul-Fitr is July 6th.
