Siparia police probing explosion

Siparia police are investigating an explosion which occurred on Wednesday evening.

According to information obtained by CNC3 NEWS, shortly after 7 pm, police were alerted to an explosion along Kay Trace, Mendez Drive.

Initial reports suggested that the explosive device was a hand grenade which had been detonated. However, when contacted, police officers could not confirm the exact source of the explosion.

Siparia police are continuing investigations.

Man killed by fake police

A 30-year-old Cipero Road man was killed by two men who were pretending to be police officers.

CNC3 NEWS understands that at around 10 30 last evening, Joseph Persad (of Woodland Avenue, Cipero Road) was at home when he heard a knock on his front door, followed by someone shouting “Police! Police!”

According to reports, this made Persad suspicious and he attempted to escape by jumping through a window. However, while doing so he heard a loud explosion. When he fell to the ground, the two men dealt him several blows and ran off.

THE LATEST: Explosion at Government Plaza Parkade

At about 11am today, a home-made battery operated device exploded on the 12th floor of the Government Plaza Parkade between Richmond and Edward Streets.

Guardian Media understands the explosion was a minor one, which caused smoke to fill the facility’s elevator and elevator shaft.  This resulted in the elevator being out of service for most of the day.

Reports are that even though the event was reported to the Parkade Management, the threat was not taken seriously.

T&TEC: Fault isolated, repairs to begin this afternoon

The T&T Electricity Commission (T&TEC) said the fault on an underground electrical cable which caused a small explosion outside the Hall of Justice has been isolated and repairs will begin this afternoon.

In a media statement, T&TEC said the incident occurred at approximately 9.15 am and caused an outage in downtown Port-of-Spain.

Its engineers responded immediately and restored the electricity supply to customers in Port-of-Spain.

The cause of the fault has not yet been determined.

International: "Several casualties" following explosion at Manchester Arena following performance by Ariana Grande

Police say there are a "number of confirmed fatalities" after reports of an explosion at Manchester Arena.

Police and emergency services are responding to what authorities say is a "serious incident" at the arena, where popular singer Ariana Grande performed on Monday.

"Details of a casualty bureau will follow as soon as available," officials said on Twitter.

"Due to an incident involving the emergency services [Manchester Victoria] has been evacuated," Northern train service officials said.

"We will provide further updates when possible."

Internationally: 10 confirmed dead in Russia metro explosion

At least 10 people have been killed and 50 more injured in explosions in the St Petersburg metro system.

There were blasts in two metro carriages at two stations, St Petersburg emergency services said.

News agency Interfax cited a source as saying at least one of the blasts was caused by a bomb filled with shrapnel.

Fifty people were injured in the blasts, Andrey Kibitov, the head of the city governor's press service said on Twitter.

Video: Palo Seco Explosion

One man was slightly injured following an explosion at Lease Operators in Palo Seco around 5pm Friday.

According to reports, the explosion occurred while fuel was being offloaded from a truck to a tank on the compound.

The compound contains several tanks and is often called a 'tank farm'.

Eyewitness the problem seemed to have emanated with the truck before it exploded, causing the tank to also explode.

The explosion also destroyed other vehicles on the compound, included a maxi taxi and a van. 

Explosion in South Trinidad

There is word of an explosion in the Palo Seco area.

The explosion happened on the compound of lease operators in the area of Los Chohos.

A truck exploded and set other vehicles a fire. We understand that the fire services has the situation under control. we will bring you more information as it comes to hand.

Five hospitalised following explosion & fire at Mucurapo Road dry cleaners

An explosion has resulted in a major fire at the Kleen Rite Dry Cleaners on Mucurapo Road. 

Fears of casualties were annulled as the Ministry of National Security confirmed via a tweet that there were no casualties. However the Ministry confirmed at 2.27pm that five people were taken to the St James Hospital. It also said that the fire appeared to be under control.

CNC3 has been told, however, that Sabrina Ali, the wife of the owner of the establishment was hurt in the incident. However, the extent of her injuries is not yet known.
