Pundit: SDMS media ban insults Sat's legacy

One pundit is condemning the move by the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha (SDMS) to prevent media coverage of the funeral services for the late Secretary-General of the organisation, Satnarayan “Sat” Maharaj.

According to Pundit Satyanand Maharaj, such a move is an insult to the legacy of Mr Maharaj, who was a national personality.

In an official statement released today, Pundit Maharaj describes as “regressive” the move by the new SDMS administration.

No school funeral for Sandman

The funeral service for Vaughn “Sand­man” Mieres and his wife Ali­ka “Let­ty” De­here can not be held at the Las Cuevas Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry School, Minister of Education Anthony Garcia confirmed on Wednesday.

On Tues­day a dig­i­tal fly­er be­gan cir­cu­lat­ing on so­cial me­dia an­nounc­ing the fu­ner­al ser­vice for Mieres and his wife would be held at the school on Friday.

The Minister explained that no funeral have ever been held in schools around the country, and this service would not be the one to set a precedent.

PM at funeral of Tobago double-murder victims

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and Tobago East MP Ayanna Webster-Roy are among hundreds of mourners currently gathered at the Montgomery Moravian Church in Bethel, Tobago for the funeral of double murder victims John "Jok­er" Mills, 69, and Eulyn John, 61.

The cou­ple was found murdered in the bed­room of their Cocrico Av­enue, Buc­coo home, on May 2.

An autopsy confirmed that both had been strangled to death.

Mills was a friend and former classmate of Dr Rowley.

Dad barred from son’s funeral

With a sin­gle red rose in hand, 21-year-old Justin Francette wait­ed anx­ious­ly for per­mis­sion to at­tend the fu­ner­al of his three-year-old son Prince Francette who died in a car ex­plo­sion last Fri­day.

How­ev­er, the dis­traught fa­ther nev­er got the chance to say good­bye on Wednes­day.

Prince’s moth­er Maria Granger told po­lice she did not want to see Francette at the fu­ner­al be­cause he nev­er as­sist­ed Prince when he was alive.

Daddy's not invited to Baby Prince's funeral

Justin Francette, the father of three-year-old Prince Francette will not be at his son's funeral today.

Prince will be buried at the Tableland Public cemetery after a funeral service at a relative's Gafoor Trace, Tableland home.

In an interview, Amanda Granger who raised Prince from birth after his parents separated, said Justin was not welcomed at the funeral.

"We do not want him here. Up to now they never asked one question about funeral arrangements. They never gave one cent for the funeral. All he did was make him," Amanda said.
