Malcolm Williams, 38, of Chaguanas, has been sentenced to one-year hard labour for possession of two firearms after appearing before the Mayaro Magistrates’ Court, earlier today.
Williams pleaded guilty to the offence of possession of firearms and not guilty to possession of ammunition when he stood before Magistrate Alicia Chankar on December 10th.
The ammunition possession charges were laid after a search warrant was executed at his home on December 9th by officers of the Mayaro Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
One revolver and a quantity of ammunition have been discovered by officers of the South Western Division Task Force (SWDTF) during an anti-crime exercise conducted La Brea his morning.
According to police reports, while on patrol Sgt. Ali along with a party of officers attached to SWDTF Area West conducted a search of a bushy area along Griffith Alley, Sobo Village, La Brea.
The search led to one revolver along with 12 rounds of assorted ammunition, being discovered hidden in a PVC pipe.

A revolver loaded with a quantity of ammunition was discovered by officers of the St. Margaret’s Police Station during an anti-crime exercise, in the Claxton Bay.
According to police reports, officers were on mobile patrol along Cedar Hill Road, Claxton Bay, on November 25th, when they observed a silver object along the side of the roadway.
Further checks revealed the object to be a Rossi revolver loaded with five rounds of .38mm ammunition.
Investigations are ongoing.
A pistol has been discovered by officers of the Gasparillo Police Station during an anti-crime exercise.
According to police reports while on patrol in the Gasparillo district on November 14th Cpl. Basarath along with a party of officers conducted a search of a bushy area along Paradise Avenue, Whiteland.
The search led to the discovery of one Astra A60 pistol and a magazine, hidden in a black plastic bag.
Enquiries are continuing.
A rifle and a quantity of ammunition were discovered by officers of the South Western Division, during an anti-crime exercise in the Siparia today.
According to police reports during the exercise, coordinated by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Neville Adams, a party of officers attached to the South Western Division Task Force (SWDTF), along with the Fyzabad and Penal Criminal Investigations Departments, proceeded to a bushy area off Robert Hill, Siparia, around 7:00 am on September 5th, where a search was carried out.
Three men are arrested and three firearms and a quantity of ammunition seized, by officers of the Western Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Diego Martin district.
During the exercise, which was supervised by Sgt. Ulric Arneaud, and conducted between 5 am and 3 pm, on Tuesday 28th August, 2018, officers proceeded to a bushy area at Richplain, Diego Martin, where they observed three men armed with guns.
Upon seeing the officers, the men attempted to escape, but were subsequently arrested.

Arms, ammunition, marijuana and police operational clothing have been seized during a police exercise in Diego Martin.
According to police reports, on Wednesday, officers of the western division task force searched a house in Riverside Drive, La Puerta where they discovered a Glock 19 pistol, 30 rounds of ammunition and five hundred and twelve grams of marijuana.
A 29-year old man was subsequently detained for the find.
