Man gets 23 years in jail for raping 13-year-old step-daughter

A 64-year-old man from San Juan, convicted of raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter in 2004, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison.

The man, who can not be named to protect the identity of the victim, was found guilty of having sex with the minor late last year but was only sentenced by High Court Judge Hayden St Clair-Douglas at the Hall of Justice in Port-of-Spain yesterday.

According to the evidence presented at trial, the victim, who lived with the man since she was six-years-old, claimed that the attacks took place between February 2003 and November 2004.

Man, 54, sentenced to 10 years' jail for raping 12-year-old girl

Eleven years af­ter he was ac­cused of rap­ing a child, a URP work­er has been sen­tenced to ten years in jail.

Kelvin Dun­can, 54, was sent to jail by Jus­tice Lisa Ram­sumair-Hinds in the San Fer­nan­do Third Crim­i­nal Court al­most a month af­ter he was found guilty by a nine-mem­ber ju­ry.

Dun­can de­nied that he raped the 12-year-old girl. He was accused of the crime when he was 43 years old.

In the mat­ter pros­e­cut­ed by at­tor­ney Sta­cy Laloo-Chong, it was al­leged the child was raped on a date un­known be­tween Jan­u­ary and April 2007.

Man on gun charge jailed

A Princes Town man who claimed he was go­ing to sell his gun out of fear that the po­lice were now shoot­ing to kill has been jailed for 18 months.

Karl Richard­son, 29, a labour­er gave that ex­cuse when he ap­peared in the Siparia Mag­is­trates’ Court charged with pos­ses­sion of a firearm.

He was ar­rest­ed on Tues­day dur­ing an an­ti-crime po­lice ex­er­cise co­or­di­nat­ed of­fi­cers of the South West­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force and Pe­nal CID.

International: Trump's former campaign chairman goes to jail

A judge in the United States has revoked the house arrest of President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman, ordering that he be held in jail while awaiting trial. 

Paul Manafort was ordered into custody on Friday following new obstruction of justice charges filed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller last week.

Manafort is facing multiple charges of money laundering, bank fraud and illegal lobbying. He was among the first to be indicted by Mueller, who is heading up the main investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential elections.

Women's network calls for stiffer penalties for sex offenders

The International Women’s Resource Network (IWRN) is expressing "deep concern" for the escalating rise in various types of sexual offences being committed against minors.

A statement by the IWRN says this comes in the wake of a recent incident in which labourer, 30-year old Gabriel Superville was charged with 12 sexual offences involving three minors.

Six months in jail for fondling doctor

A patient who fondled a doctor’s breast while being treated for a gum disease at the San Fernando General Hospital was yesterday sent to prison for six months.

Michael Bhagaloo, 25, of Rio Claro, who was born with a congenital disorder, pleaded guilty in the San Fernando Magistrates Court to the charge of indecently assaulting the doctor.

Bhagaloo went to the hospital seeking treatment for periodontal (gum) disease on April 4.

30 months' hard labour for man in viral video robbing woman in front of her son

A Laventille man who was captured on CCTV footage robbing a 26-year-old woman in Woodbrook on Wednesday 7th March, 2018 while her infant son looked on, has been sentenced to 30 months’ hard labour by a Port of Spain Magistrate, after pleading guilty to a charge of robbery with violence.

Peter Hunte, 18, of Plum Trace, Picton Road, Laventille, stood before Port of Spain Magistrate Cheron Raphael on Tuesday to answer to the charge.

The accused had first appeared before Magistrate Raphael on Thursday 15th March, 2018, and the matter postponed to today for sentencing.

Pervert jailed for showing porn to children & engaging in sexual activity in front of them

A 54-year-old Arima man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison with hard labour, after being found guilty by an Arima Magistrate on charges of exposing a child to pornography and engaging in a sexual activity in the presence of a child.

Clifford Llewellyn, a mechanic, of Carapo, Arima, appeared before Senior Magistrate Gillian Scotland, in the Arima 1st Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday 8th June, 2017, to answer to the charges.

He was found guilty of both offences and sentenced to six months for the first offence and 18 months for the second offence.
