18 months hard labour for marijuana trafficking

One man has been remanded into custody after appearing before a Point Fortin Magistrate yesterday, charged with possession of marijuana for trafficking.

38-year-old Johnny Jerome,  of Chatham Beach Road, Chatham, appeared  before  Magistrate  Alicia  Chankar  in  the  Point Fortin  Magistrates’  Court,  on  Tuesday  3rd December  2019. 

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months hard labour.

Over $1.4 million in marijuana found and seized

Police officers from the South Western Division Task Force have seized $1.4 million worth of marijuana.

According to official police reports, the marijuana was found and seized from an abandoned pickup in the Point Fortin area.

On Monday 2nd December 2019, PC Loubon, PC Durity, PC Bowen and PC  Periera  all  of  the  South  Western  Division  Task  Force,  reportedly were  on  a roadblock  duty  along  Southern  Central  Road,  Point  Fortin,  when  they received  information  of  a  white  Hyundai  H-100,  one-tonne  pickup transporting illegal narcotics.

Man arrested; SORT seizes gun, ammo, cash & narcotics

One man was arrested and quantities of narcotics and cash seized by officers of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Eastern Division over the weekend.

Reports are that during the exercise—which was conducted on Saturday 16th November 2019—the SORT officers proceeded to an apartment at Foster Road, La Seiva, Sangre Grande, where they executed a search warrant.

Coast Guard: millions in narcotics intercepted in 2019

An estimated $110 million worth of narcotics has been seized by the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) for the year so far.

During a maritime operations patrol and media tour today, acting commanding officer of the TTCG, Don Polo, said just over 900 kilograms of marijuana and cocaine have been found in vessels intercepted by the coast guard.

Meanwhile, according to the acting commander, following the closure of the Venezuelan registration, over 400 Venezuelan nationals were detained and handed over to the Immigration Division.

Cops seize ammo and marijuana in Belmont

Port of Spain Division police seized a quantity of ammunition and marijuana, during an anti-crime exercise in the Belmont district on Monday.

According to police reports, officers conducted a search of an area on Upper Belmont Valley Road, where they found 25 rounds of 5.56 ammunition and 400 grams of marijuana.

The exercise was coordinated by Snr Supt David and supervised by Insp. Lopez, Insp. Brown, Sgt. Austin, Sgt. Murray and Cpl Budri. It included officers of the Port of Spain Criminal Investigations Department, Canine Unit and Woodbrook Police Station.

Central Division Police find Marijuana worth $31,300

A revolver and quantities of ammunition and marijuana were discovered by officers of the Central Division during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Claxton Bay district yesterday.

According to police reports, officers of the Chaguanas and Couva CIDs proceeded to Pranz Gardens, Claxton Bay, where they conducted a search.

The search resulted in officers finding the firearm, along with four rounds of ammunition and 3.13 kilogrammes of marijuana. The drug has an estimated street value of $31,300.

Investigations are ongoing.

Two arrested for robbery and wounding

Two men have been arrested in connection with a report of robbery and wounding.

According to police reports, officers were on mobile patrol when they responded to a report of robbery and wounding at Tragarete Road and Cipriani Boulevard, around 11:00pm, on Tuesday 15th October 2019.

The officers, with the assistance of an off-duty police officer, arrested two suspects in connection with the incident and seized a revolver and three rounds of ammunition.

Man held with firearm

 

One man is in police custody after being held with a firearm and a quantity of marijuana.

According to police reports, officers of the Crime Suppression Unit were conducting an exercise in the Brazil Village district yesterday, when they observed a man acting suspiciously.

Upon seeing the officers, the man threw a blue bag into some nearby bushes and ran off.

The man was apprehended a short distance away and a search of the area resulted in the discovery of a loaded pistol and 700 grammes of marijuana.

Investigations are ongoing.
