15 packets of marijuana found in Cedros

A quantity of marijuana was discovered by officers of the Central Division Task Force and Central Division Major Crime Unit in the Cedros district during an anti-crime exercise yesterday.

Officers under the supervision of Snr. Supt. Inraj Balram and ASP (Ag.) Richard Smith, conducted the exercise between 11 am and 5 pm, on Thursday 18th October, 2018, during which they proceeded to Bamboo Village, Cedros.

Over $100,000 in drugs seized in Palo Seco

A quantity of marijuana was seized by officers of the South Western Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Palo Seco district.

The exercise, coordinated by Snr. Supt. Neville Adams and Supt. Deonarine Basdeo, was conducted between 2 am and 4 pm on Wednesday. 

During the exercise, officers were patrolling an area off Beach Road, Palo Seco, when they observed a man disembarking a pirogue with two crocus bags in his hands.

As the officers approached the suspect, he dropped the bags and ran back to the boat, which then sped off.

Canada has become the second country after Uruguay to legalise possession and use of recreational cannabis.
The first blunt to be legally bought was purchased at midnight on Wednesday

Canada’s government announced that it would introduce legislation to make it easier for Canadians who had been convicted of possessing small amounts of marijuana to obtain a pardon.
Medical marijuana has been legal in the country since 2001.

Pistol, drugs seized in San Juan police exercise

One pistol and quantities of ammunition and marijuana were discovered by officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the San Juan district, yesterday.

The exercise, spearheaded by Snr. Supt. Surrendra Sagramsingh and supervised by Sgt. Simeon Guelmo and Cpl (Ag.) Jason Lavia, was conducted on Thursday 11th October, 2018, during which officers proceeded to Second Street, San Juan, and conducted a search of an empty lot of land.

Police use drone to locate $1.6m marijuana field

Police destroyed marijuana trees and cured marijuana worth an estimated $1.6 million, after using a drone to locate the fields.

According to police reports, during the exercise, Sgt. Ronny Rampallard of the Air Support Unit deployed ‘Dragonfly 3’.

The drone was utilized for situational awareness to guide the officers through the forest, where they found two marijuana fields with 1,500 fully grown trees.

 The officers also found 42 pounds of cured marijuana and one camp which were subsequently destroyed along with the trees. 

Port-of-Spain man charged with marijuana possession

A Port of Spain man has been arrested and a quantity of marijuana seized by officers of the Debe Traffic and Highway Patrol Unit, during an anti-crime exercise, conducted in the Gasparillo district. 

Officers conducted the exercise along the northbound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, in the vicinity of the Gasparillo overpass, around 9:50am on Sunday, during which they had cause to stop and search a gold coloured Mazda 6 motor vehicle with a lone male occupant.

The search resulted in one kilogramme of marijuana being discovered hidden in the vehicle.

Advocate calls on PM to suspend destruction of marijuana fields

Marijuana advocate and head of the Caribbean Collective for Justice (CCJ) Nazma Muller is calling on Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley to implement an immediate suspension of marijuana arrests and a stop to the destruction of lucrative marijuana fields.

Her comments came after Rowley announced that the government will consider decriminalizing marijuana next year.

In an interview, Muller said, "We are still awaiting clarification as to exactly when Dr Rowley intends to table a motion to debate the legalisation of cannabis.

Police destroy $600,000 in marijuana

Some $600,000 worth in marijuana trees discovered in a camp in the Las Lomas district, were destroyed by officers of the Central Division Task Force, during a marijuana eradication exercise.

The exercise, coordinated by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Inraj Balram, took place around 11:30am, on Sunday 9th September, 2018.

During the exercise, officers proceeded to a forested area off Salvory Road, Las Lomas No. 1, where they discovered one marijuana field containing 1,000 fully grown marijuana trees, two hundred seedlings and a camp, which were subsequently destroyed.
